Northern Rail travel the world-famous Settle to Carlisle line is served by Leeds to Carlisle trains; the Lake District is served by the Cumbrian Coast Line and the Windermere branch; services to Whitby and Scarborough run through the North Yorkshire Moors and along the East Yorkshire Coast; the Newcastle - Carlisle line glides down the Tyne Valley; and the Peak District is bisected by the scenic Hope Valley Line from Sheffield to Manchester and the line to Buxton.

Northern Rail have been running under the current franchise since 2004, previously the Northern Rail franchise was operated by Arriva.

Travelers on Northern Rail services are allowed to take bikes on trains where there is space. All Northern Rail trains can accommodate up to two bikes, but motorcycles, tandems, tricycles and trailers are not permitted.

Animals such as dogs, cats and other small pets are permitted on Northern Rail trains, as long as they do not endanger or inconvenience your fellow passengers. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times, unless carried in a closed pet carrier.

  • Not flexible: for travel on a specified Northern Rail train on a specified date
